When Do I need a 9-1-1
Address Sign?
When do I need a 9-1-1 address sign?
It is a question often asked of the Township. The
answer is simple… right now!
No one can predict when a fire or other emergency will occur. A proper 9-1-1 address sign may save precious time in the emergency responders getting to your house.
However, for those of you who would prefer to play Russian roulette with your family’s health and safety, there are times when installing a proper 9-1-1 address sign is required.
Effective November 2, 1999 all property owners applying for a zoning Certificate of Use must first install an appropriate 9-1-1 address sign where their driveway accesses the road. The sign must have either reflective numbers and/or reflective background. The numbers must be a minimum of 3 inches in height and the numbers must contrast with the background.
You may otherwise embellish the sign adding, for example, your name, the street name, or other decorative touches provided that the sign meets the minimum requirements specified above.
Private Communities:
Some private communities may have additional requirements such as the requirement that all properties have signs or that all signs are of a specific size or color. If your house is in one such community, you will need to meet the community’s requirements.
But why worry about when a sign is required. Hang a 9-1-1 address sign now to assist our first responders. You never know when you may need them.
While you can make your own sign, you can easily buy a township compliant sign from the Dingman Township Volunteer Fire Department. Blue reflective signs are $12.00 for just the sign or $15.00 for the sign and post. Click here for an order form.
