Dingman Park's Family Entertainment Night
7/25/15
People flocked to the
Dingman
Township Recreational
Park last Saturday evening
for some good old family fun.
It was hard to tell what the bigger attraction was; the
free outdoors concert, the story telling of David Neilsen, or the large bonfire
that provided the ambiance.
The
festivities were led by Mason Jar Rebellion. The four member folk/acoustic rock
band had the audience clapping their hands and tapping their feet playing covers
of classics by Queen, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and many more.
As
darkness approached and Mason Jar Rebellion completed their sets, the crowd
gathered together around the bonfire to hear from David Nielsen, a story teller
with the kind of tales you’d expect from someone who lives near Sleepy Hollow,
New York.
From the beginning, David had the audience in the palm of his hands.
His renditions of family-friendly ghost stories were
made even more eerie by the flickering light of the bonfire.
A master performer, David’s characters were further
brought to life through a seemingly limitless number of voices and sound effects
reminiscent of an old time radio show.
The aroma of tacos, sausage and peppers and home baked cookies wafting
from the concession stand run by the Eastern Pike Soccer Club provided an almost
irresistible temptation and lured some temporarily away from the entertainment.
But once their hunger was sated, they quickly came back as not to miss any more
than necessary.
Twitter went ablaze as appreciative concert goers declared the Mason Jar
Rebellion to be “awesome” and expressed the hope that
Dingman
Township would sponsor more free
concerts in the Park.
Many youngsters and their parents went out of their way
to express their gratitude to the Recreation Commission for providing a night of
free wholesome family entertainment.
