Building Department

In 1979, the Dingman Township Board of Supervisors recognized the need to protect its citizens by implementing minimum construction standards and enacted the Dingman Township Building Ordinance.  The Ordinance required that building permits be obtained and that all structures be constructed in accordance with the B.O.C.A. National Building Code.  Enactment of the ordinance made Dingman Township unique for it was one of the only a few rural townships in Pennsylvania to have such an ordinance.  In 1999, the remainder of the Commonwealth was ordered to follow Dingman Township's lead when the legislature enacted the Uniform Construction Code requiring all municipalities to permit and inspect building construction.  (The Uniform Construction Code presently references the standards set forth in the 2009 International Building Code and the 2009 International Residential Code.) 

The Dingman Township building inspection services are provided by Code Inspections Inc..  An inspector conducts office hours Wednesday and Friday between 11:00 A.M. and 12:30 P.M. at the Dingman Township Municipal Building on Fisher Lane.  Requests for inspections may be made weekdays 8:30 AM through 4:00 PM.  Inspection requests sent by e-mail, fax, etc. will not be honored.  Violation complaints must be made in writing and contain the signature and telephone number of the person making the complaint.  Anonymous complaints will not be accepted.  Parties filing complaints should provide sufficient detail to positively identify the violation site.

The Dingman Township Building Hearing Board hears requests for variances and appeals of the Building Inspector's determinations.  The Board meets on an as needed basis.  Appeals to the Building Hearing Board must be made in writing and include the appropriate fee.
