When the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania enacted the Sewage Facilities Act
regulations the Commonwealth put in a provision that all
sewage disposal system absorption areas must be
constructed 100 feet from any drinking water well.
The regulation was intended to protect water wells from
contamination from sewage effluent.  It was soon
discovered, however, that there was no reciprocal
provision to prevent a new drinking water well from
being installed near an existing sewage absorption area.
In 1977, to remedy this problem, the Dingman Township
Board of Supervisors enacted the Dingman Township Well
Ordinance. The Ordinance requires that permits be
obtained, minimum isolation distances be met, and a
state licensed well driller construct the well.  To
date, Dingman Township remains one of the few
municipalities in the Commonwealth to have such
						requirements.
Chris Wood currently holds the position of Well Officer. He
conducts office hours Monday through Friday between 9:00
						A.M. and 10:30 A.M. at the
Dingman Township Municipal Building on Fisher Lane.
Requests for inspections may be made work days between
8:30 AM and 4:00 PM.  Violation complaints must be made
in writing and contain the signature and telephone
number of the person making the complaint.  Anonymous
complaints will not be accepted.  Parties filing
complaints should provide sufficient detail to
						positively identify the violation site.
