Important Information for Sewage System Installers

Effective March 15, 2007, Dingman Township will be charging Re-inspection fees.

For the past 31 years Dingman Township has been conducting inspections of sewage disposal system construction. Throughout that time, the Township did not charge to re-inspect work that had failed. Effective March 15, 2007, this will change. If a sewage inspection is scheduled and the work is not ready or incorrect at the time of inspection, a re-inspection fee of $50.00 will be charged prior to rescheduling the inspection.

Why a Re-inspection fee?

With the increase in the number of houses being constructed, we have seen a surge in the number of installers who are operating in the Township. Many of these installers are scheduling inspections for work that is not ready and in some cases not even started. The time that is wasted by inspectors going to these jobs may often affect yours. How many times did you have to wait for an inspection? Maybe it could have been scheduled earlier if the incomplete inspections weren’t scheduled before yours. While we would like to only charge the re-inspection fees against the routine offenders, our Attorney has determined that re-inspection fees must be charged even to the installers who occasionally have a problem.

What is the Fee? How do I pay it?

The fee is $50.00 and may be paid by check made payable to “Dingman Township.” The check must be submitted to the secretarial staff at the Township Office prior to scheduling the re-inspection.

What about Mound Verification Inspections and Certificate of Occupancy Inspections?

Mound verification inspections are extra inspections performed to determine that the mound has been covered prior to it being covered by snow. Then, if the Certificate of Occupancy is requested and snow prohibits viewing the mound, the Certificate of Occupancy will be issued. However, if at the time the Certificate of Occupancy is requested, there is no snow, the mound is re-inspected for erosion that may have occurred after the mound verification inspection.

There will be no fee for a mound verification inspection, nor a subsequent Certificate of Occupancy inspection (if performed) if said inspections pass.

If the mound verification inspection fails, a re-inspection fee would be required if another mound verification inspection is requested.

If the mound verification inspection passes, but a subsequent Certificate of Occupancy fails, no fee would be required for the first re-inspection. Should the first re-inspection fail, subsequent re-inspections would be assessed the fee.

How much of the re-inspection fee will be paid to the inspectors?

The inspectors are paid on an hourly basis and will receive no extra compensation for assessing these fees.

How much will the Township make by assessing these fees?

It is not the Township’s desire to make money through these fees. Hopefully the fees will encourage all installers to have their work performed correctly and in a timely manner.

How can I avoid Re-Inspection fees?

  1. Do not schedule inspections unless you know that you will be ready in time.
  1. If you will not be ready, cancel before 10:30AM the day of inspection.
  1. Have your work ready for inspection by 11:00AM unless otherwise approved by the S.E.O.

NOTE: telling the secretary that you will not be ready until a certain time will not alleviate this requirement.
